Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries – General Conference  is responsible for these primary functions:

1. Leadership, direction and oversight.
2. Administration of the department, committees, and chaplain associations
3. Global strategic and contingency assessment and planning,
4. Professional standards, policies, and ethics
5. Development of professional training and continuing education
6. Provide guidance to the world divisions on policies regarding ecclesiastical approval and endorsement
7. Coordination of certifying boards and certification of programs
8. Budgeting and resources management
9. Chaplain integration and accountability with the church and Adventist ministry
10. Evangelistic outreach, discipling, and pastoral care
11. Operational support for church members in military and public service
12. Advocacy and liaison with public professional organizations and military relations
